Garage Door Replacement Cost in Boise, Idaho
Most Boise homeowners replace a garage door once or twice in their lives. That makes it hard to know what a fair price looks like, what questions to ask, and where the real costs hide. This guide covers what you should expect to pay in the Treasure Valley in 2026, what Boise’s climate actually requires from a door, and how to avoid the common mistakes we see on installs across Ada and Canyon counties.
Price’s Guaranteed Doors has been in the garage door business for 40 years. Our Boise location at 504 E 43rd St handles installs from the North End to Nampa, and we carry Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Martin, and Clopay. The numbers and advice below come from real jobs in this market.
What You Will Actually Pay for a New Garage Door in Boise
Pricing depends on three things: the door size, the material and insulation level, and whether you need a new opener at the same time. Here are honest installed ranges for a standard two-car garage, which is by far the most common configuration in Boise:
Entry-level steel door (non-insulated or R-6), installed: $900 to $1,400
This tier covers basic raised-panel steel doors. They look fine, they work, and they are the right choice if you are preparing a house for sale or replacing a door on a detached shop or rental property. That said, a non-insulated door in Boise is a bigger compromise than it would be in a mild climate. Summer attic temps in a Boise garage regularly exceed 120°F, and a door with no thermal break makes that worse.
Mid-range insulated steel door (R-12 to R-16), installed: $1,400 to $2,400
This is where most Boise homeowners land. You get a polyurethane-core door that holds its shape better through Treasure Valley temperature swings, noticeably quieter operation, and a longer panel life because the steel is sandwiched around foam rather than sitting as a single skin. Brands in this tier include Amarr’s Classica and Carriage Court lines and Wayne Dalton’s Model 9100 series.
Premium carriage-house or raised-panel with high insulation (R-18 to R-32), installed: $2,400 to $4,200
North End bungalows, newer Eagle and Meridian developments, and any home where the garage faces the street tend to benefit most from this tier. You are paying for better steel gauge, better insulation values, and more design detail. Amarr’s Hillcrest and Oak Summit lines are popular here. Martin’s Carriage House Collection is another one we see requested frequently.
Custom wood, glass, or full-view aluminum, installed: $4,000 and up
These are architectural statements. If you have a contemporary build in the East End or a historic home where curb appeal is the primary driver, this tier makes sense. Budget and lead time vary significantly.
Adding a new opener: $300 to $600, depending on drive type and smart-home features
If your existing opener is more than 10 to 12 years old, replacing it at the same time as the door often makes sense. You are already paying for the labor visit, and older openers lack modern safety sensor standards.
What Boise’s Climate Does to Garage Doors
Boise’s high-desert location creates a punishing range of conditions that most of the country does not deal with.
Temperature swings. Boise regularly sees 105°F in July and single-digit lows in January. That 100-plus degree seasonal swing causes cheaper doors to warp, especially doors with thin steel skins or no internal structure. Polyurethane-injected doors handle this better than polystyrene-backed doors because the foam is bonded to both steel skins and resists bowing.
UV exposure. Boise averages around 206 sunny days per year. South-facing and west-facing doors take a significant UV load. Factory finishes on lower-gauge doors can chalk and fade within 5 to 7 years on west-facing exposures. Doors with baked-on polyester finishes or factory primers hold color longer. If your garage faces west, this is worth discussing with whoever quotes you.
Spring wind events. The Treasure Valley gets strong, sustained winds in spring, particularly along the foothills corridor from Boise into Eagle. A door with a higher wind-load rating and heavier gauge steel is worth considering if your property is exposed. Most standard residential doors are rated for 90 mph wind loads, which is adequate, but we have seen cheaper doors develop hinge stress from sustained gusts on exposed lots.
Freeze-thaw cycles. The bottom seal of your door takes the most abuse in winter. A worn or brittle weatherseal lets cold air and moisture into the garage, which raises utility costs and, in attached garages, affects the adjacent living space. When we install a new door, we replace the bottom seal as a matter of course. If you are keeping your current door, this is one of the cheapest maintenance items you can address. Spring lubrication of rollers and hinges, annual spring tension checks, and weatherseal inspections add years to any door’s service life. Our Annual Maintenance Package covers all of it on a set schedule so nothing gets missed.
Boise Neighborhoods and What We See There
The housing stock across the Treasure Valley is genuinely diverse, and the right door varies by neighborhood.
North End and East End. These are Boise’s older, character-rich neighborhoods with Craftsman bungalows and Tudor revivals. Carriage-house style doors in faux-wood finishes or real wood tend to be the most requested here. Detached garages are common, so insulation is sometimes a lower priority, but noise is often a concern for alleys.
Bench neighborhoods (South Boise, Borah area). This is a mix of mid-century ranch homes and postwar construction. Single-car garages are more common here than anywhere else in the valley. A clean mid-range insulated door in white or almond replaces a lot of original hardware in this part of the city.
Meridian and Eagle. The newer subdivisions dominate here. Most homes have two-car or three-car attached garages, and HOA guidelines sometimes restrict color and style options. We see a lot of contemporary flush-panel doors in modern-woodgrain finishes in these areas. Checking your HOA documents before ordering is always a good idea.
Nampa and Caldwell. Canyon County homes tend toward practical over decorative. Value-tier insulated steel is the most common choice. These are also markets where we see more farm-adjacent properties with larger openings for utility bays.
Kuna and Star. Newer construction on larger lots, often with three-car garages and longer driveways. Wind exposure can be higher in some of these locations, and larger door sizes increase both material and labor costs.
Why the Installer Matters as Much as the Door
The brand on the panel matters. So does who puts it in.
Garage door installation requires precise spring tension calibration, correct track alignment to within an eighth of an inch, and header clearance assessment before anything goes up. An improperly balanced door puts excess load on the opener, wears springs prematurely, and can be a safety risk.
National service chains operate with dispatched technicians who may cover a wide territory and rotate frequently. That is not a knock on the individuals, but it does affect accountability. When you call a local dealer about a problem three years after an install, you are talking to people with a stake in the local market who want to resolve it.
Price’s Guaranteed Doors has been doing this work for 40 years. We are not a referral network or a franchise. Our Boise team does the installs, and our Boise location handles any follow-up. Amarr recognizes us as a Diamond Dealer, which is their highest dealer tier and reflects installation volume and customer satisfaction standards.
Getting a Quote from Price’s in Boise
We offer in-home estimates at no charge. A technician will measure the opening, check the headroom and sideroom clearances, assess the existing opener and whether it should be replaced, and go over options at price points that match your priorities.
A quote typically covers door, springs, tracks, hardware, installation labor, and haul-away of the old door. We will flag any framing issues or permit requirements specific to your municipality. Boise and Meridian have different requirements for attached-garage work, and Ada County unincorporated areas have their own rules.

Protect Your Investment After Installation
A new garage door is a significant purchase. The difference between one that lasts 15 years and one that lasts 30 often comes down to whether it gets basic annual attention: spring tension checks, roller and hinge lubrication, weatherseal inspection, and balance tests. Most homeowners skip this until something breaks. By then, a $30 maintenance visit has turned into a $300 spring replacement or a bent track.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does garage door installation take? Most single or double-car door replacements take two to four hours. Larger openings, three-car configurations, or jobs requiring framing repairs take longer. We will give you a realistic time window when we schedule.
Do I need a permit to replace a garage door in Boise? Replacing a like-for-like door in the same opening generally does not require a permit in the City of Boise. Widening an opening or modifying framing does. Meridian and Eagle have slightly different thresholds. We handle permit questions as part of the quoting process.
What is the difference between polyurethane and polystyrene insulation? Polystyrene is a rigid foam board inserted between the door skins. Polyurethane is injected and bonded to both skins. Polyurethane provides higher R-values per inch, better structural rigidity, and a quieter door. It also holds up better through the temperature extremes Boise sees each year.
How do I know if I need a new opener or just a new door? If your opener is more than 10 to 12 years old, lacks photo-eye sensors, or struggles to lift the current door, replacing it at the same time as the door is usually more cost-effective than two separate service visits. If the opener is newer and working well, we will say so.
Which brands do you carry in Boise? We stock and install Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Martin, and Clopay doors at our Boise location. Each brand has strengths at different price points, and we will walk you through the options that match your budget and style.
How long do garage doors last in Boise? A well-installed mid-range door with proper maintenance typically lasts 15 to 30 years. Springs are the most common service item and usually need replacement every 7 to 12 years depending on cycle count.
