Tips for Keeping Garage Doors Working in Winter
The garage door works very hard within your home throughout the year, but especially during the winter. Cold temperaturess make certain aspects of the garage door’s operations a bit more laborious, and can make garage door repair more necessary during this time of year.
At Price’s Guaranteed Doors, we’re here to help. Here are a few tips for keeping your garage door operating properly this winter.
Proper Lubrication
All parts of the garage door have to be lubricated well to function without any issues. There are basic lubricant sprays available to avoid and leakage on your car or your garage floor while you’re doing this.
Clean and Warm
Your garage rolls up and down using wheels on a basic track, but debris or other items on this track can interrupt this process. Make sure all tracks are cleaned regularly, including of salt and other dirt that builds up more often during winter.
In addition, do your best to check for sealing and insulation within the garage. Cold temperatures can lead to cracks for garage door windows or even the rubber weather sealing strip on the bottom of your door. Proper insulation can stop this from becoming a risk.
Cables and Rollers
The rollers that allow your door to move up and down can become worn over time, and this will be particularly noticeable during winter. Replace these if needed, and be sure all high tension cables are working well – ensure there are no broken strands near the roller.
Tighten Loose Bolts
Basic operations will cause bolts to naturally loosen over time, so you should check now and then to ensure they’re tightened and in the proper position.
Keep an Ear Out
One possible sign of a worn down garage door in winter is a scraping or high-pitched noise. These might signal an issue with the track or another element – your door’s opening and closing should generally be relatively quiet aside from the basic motor and the rollers moving up and down smoothly.
